Behind the Lens: Ellen Von Unwerth

If you follow this blog and/or my twitter you have probably already figured out that my new ambition is to become a photographer. :) Last week I visited a well-known art/design school in Budapest and decided that I'll apply for their two-year photography program (yeyyyy!!!). Unfortunately there is an admission test I'll have to take, so I'll really be focusing on photoraphy in the next few weeks. I'll try to visit as many exhibitions as I can and I'll try to discover the work of as many photographers as I possibly can... :) I'd love your help to prepare for this super important exam!!! Let me know who your favorite photographer is and why? I'll try to feature as many recommendations on the blog as possible! (I'll credit whoever made the recommendation --> promotion for YOU! :)

The first one on my list is Ellen Von Unwerth. She might not sound familiar, but I bet  you have seen her work many times already! Among others, she shot the the Sex and the City 2 Promo/Cover but she has been featured on countless Vogue editions around the globe as well. I love her take on feminine sexuality and power. I am a sucker for black and write photography and her provocative shots are right up my alley!

What an inspirational post!

I love my camera, couldn't be without it.

Richard Avedon is a favourite of mine. His work just makes me smile. I think all photography is good if you feel something while looking at it :)

Good luck,

Laura xx

Oo, love these pictures! I've taken a few photography classes and love it! I've got some names at home that I'll try to gather up for you to inspire a little inspiration! It's so much fun being creative with the camera. How awesome would that be for you to do a 2 year program! I'd be a little jealous... in a good, supportive way, though ;)

Oh I think that's such a cool idea, well done! I've often thought about doing a photography course but I get put off by the 'technical' descriptions of the courses! Sad, huh. I bet you'll have so much fun.

I don't know enough about photography, but had I the time, I would love to do what you are doing! Good luck!!!! Your blog is going to sky-rocket.

This is sooo exciting for you! Isn't it great when you sort of surprise yourself and take on something completely new? I don't know very much about famous photographers, except the big fashion ones: Steven Meisel, Annie Leibovitz, and Patrick Demarchelier. Maybe one of them would be good?

Hi Gaby! I've just mentioned you on my last post :) My favourite photographer is Francesc Català Roca. He's a master! He can do a collage of many different things in just one picture, so he manages to show many different elements in a balanced way, not easy!
I also like Robert Doisneau, very nice pictures, but Català Roca's work is nice, expressive and tender at the same time.
Besos,
Marta

love that one photo especially of the lingerie in the sand, the pose is amazing and the silhouettes/ different fabrics create such a stunning effect.
