Gypsy*Guide - Vienna*Austria

Vienna is often compared to Budapest as they both used to be the crown jewels of the once majestic AustroHungarian empire. But Vienna is much more than history and pretty buildings. Today we have the pleasure of being introduced to the best of the city by one of my fave bloggie friends Vicky from Bikinis and Passports. Vicky was the first blogger I´ve ever met in real life and we´ve been blogger besties ever since! :) I love this girl, so make sure you stop by her blog and check out her favorite places should you ever visit Vienna! (and you definitely should! ;D)

I feel so honored that Gabby asked me to share some of my favorite places in Vienna with her amazing readers. Ever since I moved to Vienna for school 3 years ago I have really learned to love and appreciate the city. Not only do you get to see little bits and pieces of history at every corner you walk by, but Vienna also has so many amazing restaurants, bars and parks to offer. Here are some of my personal favorite picks:
FOOD:
1.     Shanghai Tan – if you like asian cuisine, you will love this places. Anything from their wonton soup to the specialty rolls is a great choice and I have never had anything I didn't like. On the weekends you should probably make reservations. For an extra special time, ask for one of the booths downstairs :)

Rochus - in the 3rd district is great for brunch. They serve things like homemade hummus, special eggs with truffle and have amazing breakfast combos.
3.     Dots im Brunnerhof – this place has incredible experimental sushi and is especially nice in the summer since you can sit in the pretty courtyard. It's in the 19th district, so a little further out but can easily be reached with the D tram (Nussdorf).

NIGHTLIFE:
1.     Palais Kinsky – currently my favorite club. They have multiple floors with different kinds of music. You can chill to some house tunes or sing along to Britney Spears :) Fridays are my favorite there but I heard Saturdays are pretty good as well, depending on the DJ.

2.     Freiraum – it's a café, bar & restaurant all in one! Located right on Mariahilfer Straße it is easy to get to and always packed with a fun crowd. They serve delicious cocktails (and an yummy breakfast). Reservations are probably a good way to go since at night it can be hard to get a table.
MUST - DO:
1.     Hermann Strandbar – if you come to Vienna during the summer you have to stop by this place. Located by Schwedenplatz (Urania) along the Danube Channel you will find a sandy place thats always super busy when its warm out. You can either bring your own drinks or have some at the bar there.
2.     The Ring – whenever I have people over that haven't been to Vienna before I like to show them the ring, which surrounds the first district. You can walk along it and see all the important historic buildings like the university, cityhall, Burgtheater, Hofburg, opera, …
3.     Naschmarkt – a big market with amazing little restaurants inbetween. You can find anything from exotic fruits to hard-to-get herbs there. My 2 favorite places to eat there are Neni which is a little more casual or Nautilus which is an amazing seafood place.
IF YOU HAVE TIME:
1.     Vintage Flo – a vintage shop where you'll find vintage chanel earrings, next to designer costumes and amazing hats. Definitely not cheap but wonderful for browsing!!
2.     Türkenschanz Park – a wonderful place to spend a sunny afternoon or go for a picnic. There are little meadows, ponds and benches to catch some sun.

3.      Cupcakes – it is the most adorable cupcake café and it just opened last September. I looove going there for a cupcake and latte with my girlfriends. You can also buy cute cakestands and cupcake-accessories there!

Thanks Vicky!!! I cannot wait to visit you someday soon! ;)
Have you ever been to Vienna?

Legally Blonde

Leather Trench (last seen here) -  from Istanbul, Dress - H&M, Wedges - ASOS (last seen here), Sunnies - Mango

When my sister (and photographer in Hungary) looked at me in this outfit she said I looked like Reese Whiterspoon in Legally Blonde and she did not mean it as a compliment! :) What can I say? I reall enjoy dressing up these days! Besides visiting my family, one of the reasons I came back to Hungary was to pick up some of my spring/summer warderobe. I moved to Berlin in February and as I was only allowed to take 20kg on the plane, I sure did not bring any of my sandals, spring coats or summer dresses, which have happily found their way to my luggage now. I just don´t know how they gonna fit in my closet. Ooops.

Simple Days

Dress - Zara, Cardigan - Mango, Wedges - H&M

One of the best part of my vacation in Hungary is that I can really enjoy every single day without having to worry about all the chores like cleaning, cooking or laundry. I love being a little girl again playing with Diego (with who I fall more and more in love with every day), taking him on big walks and eating my mum´s delicious cooking (she is seriously the best cook in the world :). I´d very much like to freeze time right about now.

Easter Traditions

Shirt - Vintage, Jeans - H&M, Hat - Stradivarius, Sunnies - RayBan

Easter is one of those very few holidays which are really about meeting family, eating delicious food and  guarding our traditions. In Hungary some really interesting folk customs are still alive. Today the boys we know will visit to sprinkle perfume or water on us girls (to keep our youth and beauty alive :). In return they will ask for a kiss and an egg (but mostly we only give chocolates :) I´ll spend my day at my grandma eating my weight in delicious cakes and waiting for her retired gentlemen friends  to sprinkle me! :D How do you celebrate Easter? Any funny traditions? Enjoy the day wherever you may be! ;)

Homemade FroYo

Believe it or not, frozen yoghurt is definitely not as popular in Europe as it is in the States and it is actually really hard to find. One of my favorite Christmas presents was this ice cream maker which was waiting patiently in the freezer for about 4 months now. As I've mentioned before, we are huge ice cream junkies, however I'm not a huge fan of all the heavy cream and sugar that goes into regular ice creams. The solution? Homemade froyo with fresh berries, fat free yoghurt, sweetener and just a pinch of lemon aroma. It was not only delicious and supereasy to make but it is also highly addictive. I love to try guilt free recipes and I'll definitely be experimenting with new ice cream and froyo recipes this summer.

P.S: While I used an ice cream maschine I think it is not necessary. You can just mix your yoghurt with the fruits and sweetener and leave it in the freezer overnight. The result will be the same! ;)

Gypsy*Guide - Miami*Florida

Like I mentioned in last week's Gypsy*Guide post today we'll have the pleasure of being introduced to Miami by none other than Steffy from Steffy's Pros and Cons. Next to being a mastress thrifter and vintage style blogger Steffy is the proud owner of a small online vintage boutique Teas & Tulips. I'm thrilled to see the real Miami through her eyes! ;)

I am so excited to share with all of Gabby's lovely readers my current home, Miami Florida. Miami gets a completely different impression from the way it is displayed on TV and in movies, and there is actually so much more culture to Miami than just South Beach. I never go to South Beach, because it is expensive and very touristy, so today I will be sharing with you the places that non-tourists go to!

View Miami Best Spots! in a larger map

Dining:
Yuga: This lovely restaurant is within walking distance from my house. It is low-key and always serves the best sushi! The prices are really affordable to boot, and the rolls are not usually more than $11, which is cheap for Sushi. Me and my boyfriend are in here at least once a week when we get a Japanese food craving!

Cafe Demetrio: This is my local coffee spot. They also have amazing empanadas, salads and sandwiches. They serve their cappuccinos with a little foam heart on top, which always makes me smile! It is the best and only coffee shop on Alhambra Circle, which is the working downtown district of Coral Gables.

Nightlife:
My favorite bar in all of Miami is located downtown, and it is called the DRB or the Democratic Republic of Beer. The beer menu is literally a book, and it lists hundreds (yes hundreds) of beers from all over the world! The last time I went, I tried a porter all the way from the United Kingdom! This place has something for everybody.

Exciting Things You Must Do!
Shark Valley: This place offers a 15 mile bike ride in the middle of the Florida Everglades, completely off the beaten track. It has alligators relaxing in the sun all around you to boot! For some lovely scenery and some peaceful alone time with a friend or a loved one, I would definitely recommend shark valley!

U-Pick Kendall: I personally love fresh fruit, but always find it so expensive in the grocery store. This place offers fruit that was picked that same day, or you have the option of picking your own strawberries, tomatoes, peppers, cilantro and basil! I try to get here as much as I can to enjoy some delicious fruits and veggies, and my boyfriend and I always make a home cooked tomato sauce afterwards!

Vintage:
Miami-Twice: This is a REAL thrift store. It offers many different beautiful vintage treasures from many different generations. It can be a little bit pricey, because it is authentic, but if you find something you fall in love with it is completely worth it!

Douglas Gardens Thrift Store: Okay, do not go here alone. It is not in a spectacular neighborhood, so don't say I didn't warn you. But when you step inside it is a FACTORY filled with racks and racks of amazing vintage! It is worth the drive into some unchartered Miami territories!

Thank you so much for listening to my top spots, and I hope that if you visit you decide to hit some places on the list!

<3 Steffy

Thanks for the great recommendations Steffy! I really hope one day I can make it to Florida and you can take me around for some vintage shopping and lemon beer on the beach! ;)
