The best gift is...

No, none of you have guessed what I got myself for my birthday! :) Drumrolls please............ FREEDOM! I QUIT MY JOB!!!!! It's been coming for a long time. I was working in a very meaningful and serious position in a very meaningful and serious company and quite frankly I hated it for some time now. The company was great with me, they allowed me to work part time, they allowed me to work from home, but when parttime becomes full time plus loads of overtime (for part time salary) I loose the most important thing, which is freedom. I have missed so many classes in photography school that I was on the edge of being dismissed, I did not have time to really advance, I was editing my pictures in the middle of the night, no sleep, no food, no gym, no time for blogging.... you get the point. So I've decided that even without an alternative I quit my job and give myself the chance to learn and become what I want to be... a photographer. I have one year to prove myself that I can do it and if it doesn't work out... well I can't say I've never tried and I'll search for a new boring job! Wish me luck babes! I'm frightened and excited and soooo hopeful for the future... :) I'm gonna be unemployed and totally broke but hopefully on the way to make my dreams come true!

And as my "friend" George Micheal said.... :)
I'll hold on to my freedom
May not be what you want from me
Just the way it's got to be
Lose the face now
I've got to live

Have a dreamy weekend!

Pretty scary decision to make, but I believe at the end of day there's nothing like having your own freedom - Well done! Wish you all the best and you enjoy every minute of it.
I am also quitting my job end of this month. My husband and I are expecting a baby as well so I figured this has to be the best time to take this huge step. While I'm home all day being a stay at home wife & mother, I'll be working on my life goals and hopefully I can start earning some money but on my own terms.

Congratulations on getting your Freedom back. I am sure this wasn't an easy decision for you to make but I truly believe that if it makes you happy, than it is the right one. You have nothing to loose, just to gain (well maybe just money but you can always adjust to life with less means).Good luck with your future endeavors!

Congrats! I am so jealous of your confidence. I too would like to quit my boring 9-5er(even though that whole 'working 9 to 5...what a way to make a liiiving' is a misconception because I work 8-5...they don't pay me to eat lunch.) But I think I need a little more time to figure out exactly what I want so I can pursue it.

Anyway, congrats and I can't wait to see what becomes of Gypsy Diaries with your new found FREEDOM!! <3

congratulations!

we are in very similar situations except i was laid off (and didn't quit...though i was thinking about it) but now i feel like i'm on the right path to doing what i really want to do...

in the new year i'm heading to india for 1 year to work/volunteer at a non-profit in a communications/pr role (my background) while there i'll also pursue my love of photography in the hopes that i'll end up building a portfolio and becoming a photographer.

good luck to us both during this next year!
