Flathunt

Before coming to Barcelona, I thought that one of the most exciting parts of moving would be the flathunt. I´ve always loved to see other people´s flats and I´ve always liked to play with the idea of finding the perfect flat in Barcelona. My big excitement is slowly turning into a big disappointment though... I´ve been looking for 9 days know, have seen more than 30-35 flats and I still haven´t found what I´m looking for. Or rather I´ve found 3 that I´ve really liked but all 3 has chosen someone else, for the same reason... they preferred someone who is not working from home. Bummer. Other than these three I´ve seen everything there is... dirty hostels turned into apartments for the winter, dark small holes advertised as spacious luxury rooms, 7th floor apartments without an elevator, junkytowns, old retired ladies who rent out rooms... and of course none of these were mentioned in the ad.

I wake up every day thinking that today will be the day that I find my flat! Today I have 2 more appointments and then I have to make a decision as being homeless is just not an option anymore. So far there are 2 that I could probably live in.... one of them is a nice but rather small room close to the beach, the other one is a really big room but in an old, not so pretty apartment close to the Sagrada Familia.... which would you choose?

Wish me luck! I hope one of the 2 rooms today will be the one! ;)

I'd probably take the smaller one close to the beach... but that's just me :) Good luck :)

I'd probably choose the one close to the beach just because I think it'd be more relaxing that way even if it is kind of small. Or you could get the big room and be like a surprise in the dirty apartment. Good luck with the hunt! :) Hope you find the perfect place!

I'd probably keep looking if you're not happy with the two options. It's not worth settling in and then starting the search all over again when you find you don't like it there. This is a very suspenseful storyline - can't wait to see what you come up with!

If I were you I would keep on looking until you found the perfect apartment! I know it must be hard, but it's better to start off your adventure with a perfect apartment than a not so perfect one.

Good luck girl!

Sad to hear, I hope you'll find your place soon :) and I would choose the apartment close to the beach! xo

I would go for the small one by the beach. Decorative storage does wonders, so you can't even notice your room is small! :)

Small room close to the beach. Besides working at home, are you really going to spend all your free time cooped up in the apartment? I think not! You're better off being close to a hot spot where you can meet people. ~jen

Hi Gabby!

I lived in the Sagrada Família for a while and it's very close to a lot of places but at night there really isn't much going on and I didn't like all the touristy shops near the cathedral itself. The area doesn't have much character. You mentioned before that Barceloneta was one of your preferred districts so you could take the smaller room and then would be ideally placed for seeing other flats in the area over time. Suerte!

Hi Gabby! I can sympathize with you over apartment hunting, it's really stressful! But reading your posts about it has helped me see that it's not just me and apartment hunting is a long frustrating process for everyone! thanks for that :)

I would choose the smaller apartment closer to the beach if it were my decision! But I think you should keep looking if you can. At least give it two weeks! <3

I'd keep looking too. Especially since you work from home you should love the space you spend all your time in.

Good luck!

I know how you feel- flat-hunting was rather miserable in NYC when I was looking a couple months back. Best of luck in finding a new place soon!
